Have support

While a large part of divorce coping is learning to be alone, that doesn’t mean you have to handle everything by yourself. This is where your support network comes in. A strong support network goes a long way in helping you cope and adjust to your new post-divorce life.

The most immediate support you’ll find is from friends and family. Odds are, they’ve been supporting you since your divorce started, and will continue to do so now that it’s over. Grieve as you need to

Taking the time you need to grieve is a big part of divorce coping. Avoiding your emotions will only make it harder for you to adjust to your new lifestyle. Plus, suppressing your emotions isn’t healthy, and can cause you a lot of distress.

Instead, acknowledge both the good and the bad of your past relationship, that it’s over now, and how you can move on for the future. It might not be easy, or something you can do all at once.
